PLEASE HELP ALGEBRA 2: ok so I have ping-pong balls 0,1,2,3,4 or 5. My table looks like this basically: x f 0 33 1 30 2 18 3 21 4 42 5 6 Now I need to enter the correct probabilities in decimals to complete the probability distribution table. And this is where i get lost! :( please help me!

OpenStudy (mathmate):

We know that the area of a probability distribution adds up to one. If you have a discrete distribution (present case) where N= sum of all frequencies, and \(f_i\)=frequency of event i, then P(i)=\(f_i/N\) Draw a histogram of P(i) against i. Note that each P(i) should be less than one.

OpenStudy (grace00now):

thats where Im having the issue cause I can't do it in a way that it ends less than one it keeps going like 7 something

OpenStudy (mathmate):

P(i)=\(f_i\)/N Did you find N (sum of all frequencies), and what did you get?

OpenStudy (grace00now):

150

OpenStudy (grace00now):

P(i)=fi/150

OpenStudy (grace00now):

right?

OpenStudy (mathmate):

yes, so far so good, continue!

OpenStudy (grace00now):

P(i)=F33/150

OpenStudy (grace00now):

aaaaaaaagh im so frustrated!

OpenStudy (grace00now):

P(0)=33/150

OpenStudy (grace00now):

?

OpenStudy (grace00now):

and I get 0.22 for the first one

OpenStudy (grace00now):

if i did that one right I got the others. I just did the math like that and my probabilities added up to 1 can you please tell me if that one is correct?!?!?!

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Yes, P(0)=0.22 is correct. As you said, you can do the rest of it the same way. To avoid random mistakes, add up all values at the end to make sure the sum is 1.0
