Why in the name of reason would you "cross multiply"? Use simple operations. If you are solving for v, you just multiplied by 7. There is zero reason to do that. Just solve using elementary operations. I suggest multiplying by 8 and being done, rather than also multiplying by 7 so you can later divide by 7. Just don't do it.
