What is the x-intercept of the line with this equation −2x+12y=18 ?
The line crosses the x-axis when y= 0 To find x-intercept, plug in y = 0 and solve for x value
So would i have to multiply the 12 by 0 to get y so far? i've never done this before at all so im clueless haha
yes you replace "y" with 0 ---> -2x + 12(0) = 18
crap i messed up the equation, the 12 is supposed to be 1/2y
thats ok, either way you multiply it by 0
alrighty, so what do i do for the next step? I know that the equation is now -2x + 0y = 18, but you can't add up two numbers with different letters.
well 0*anything = 0 right? the y variable goes away, use algebra to solve for x ---> -2x = 18
would the answer possibly be -9?
yes correct, 18/-2 = -9 Make sure you write the answer as a point ----> x-intercept is (-9,0)
