James says that since -5 is farther from zero on a number line than -4 is, then -5 > -4. explain the error in James’ thinking.

if the number -5 and -4 were positive then james would be right about 5 being bigger than 4 but since we are talking about the numbers being negative that means that -4 is closer to 0 than -5 so the answer would be -5<-4
