3+3x=9 You have to do he same thing to both sides to solve an equation so you can come out with the correct answer and you have to do this because you have to have one side = the other. You would subtract 3 from both sides and get 3x=9. *Another reason is so you can get x byitself* divide by 3 on both sides. X=3
