I am not quite getting the 33 + 7. I know cross multiplication is involved, but I can't figure out how it's done.

no it's not involved

we have
33/42 + 7/42 = ?
the answer would be
33/42 + 7/42 = ?/42
that was the point of common denominators.. to get the same denominator in the answer
so now all we have to do it to find the value of numerator,, how?
33 + 7 = 40
so the final answer is
40/42
make sense?
