1. One day, a person went to a horse racing area. Instead of counting the number of humans an horses, he conuted 74 heads and 196 legs. How many humans and horses were there? A. 37 humans and 98 horses B. 24 horses and 50 humans C. 31 horses and 74 humans D. 24 humans and 50 horses

OpenStudy (whitmorerad12):

I think i know the answer

OpenStudy (jackthegreatest):

ok what do you think?

OpenStudy (jackthegreatest):

hmm what? B and D are the same haha

OpenStudy (vuriffy):

No, they are not.

OpenStudy (jackthegreatest):

oh whoops i saw the same numbers

OpenStudy (vuriffy):

It happens, haha.

OpenStudy (whitmorerad12):

I think its B I'm not sure

OpenStudy (jackthegreatest):

anyways it has to be b there are 74 heads d would give over 200 legs

OpenStudy (jackthegreatest):

i didnt even multiply haha

OpenStudy (vuriffy):

Both humans and horses have one head, so B and D both total up to 74 heads. Which is what the person counted. Now, you just have to determine, by knowing that horses have 4 legs and humans have 2 legs and multiply those values until you reach the correct value of 196 legs. 24 horses - 50 humans x = 4, y = 2 (24)x (50)y 24(4) = 96. 50(2) = 100. 100+96 = 196. 196 legs.

OpenStudy (whitmorerad12):

its B!

OpenStudy (vuriffy):

The correct answer is B.

OpenStudy (whitmorerad12):

thanks everyone that helped me

OpenStudy (jackthegreatest):

np

OpenStudy (vuriffy):

Sure thing.

OpenStudy (whitmorerad12):

I'm so dumb at math lol

OpenStudy (vuriffy):

Everyone needs help sometimes.

OpenStudy (whitmorerad12):

true

OpenStudy (vuriffy):

Medal me, if you wish. If you need anymore help, just "@me"

OpenStudy (jackthegreatest):

@Vuriffy ill give you a medal
