How do I find the value of a when the function f(x)=(2x^3 -12x^2 +8x-48)/( x-6 ) when X < 6 and f(x)= x^2 + x + a when X >=6.... Comment: a should be -34 but it's giving me incorrect... what am I doing wrong here?

OpenStudy (dumptybaby):

Please help me guys

OpenStudy (dumptybaby):

Any help would be much appreciated thanks guys

OpenStudy (triciaal):

do you know how to factor the function?

OpenStudy (triciaal):

what do you get when you divide the polynomial by (x-6)?

OpenStudy (dumptybaby):

of course. I get 2x^3 -12x^2 +8

OpenStudy (triciaal):

try again

OpenStudy (dumptybaby):

Is it incorrect? I can't think of any other way to do the factorization
