OpenStudy (ebonyserrano):

A car travels at an average speed of 68 miles per hour. How long does it take to travel 221miles?

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

Divide 221/68

OpenStudy (ebonyserrano):

So 3 hours and 25 minutes?

OpenStudy (mhchen):

Since it's 68mph, we can model that as 68miles / 1 hour And 221 miles would be our total distance. Now since we are finding hour, we multiply it like (68miles/1hour)*(x-hours) = 228 miles Then the hours would cancel out, leaving with x = 228miles / 68 miles.

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

3 hours is correct. but not 25 minutes. You get 3.25, right? Well .25 times 60 minutes (in an hour) = 15 minutes, not 25

OpenStudy (sshayer):

68x=221 \[x=\frac{ 221 }{ 68 }=\frac{ 17\times 13 }{ 17 \times 4 }=\frac{ 13 }{ 4 }hours=3~ hours~ 15~ minutes\]
