OpenStudy (ambermarie151):

What is the third quartile of this data set? 21, 24, 25, 28, 29, 35, 37, 39, 42 A. 38 B. 25 C. 29 D. 24.5

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

What is the median?

OpenStudy (ambermarie151):

29 ? @tkhunny

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Good. Now, ignore everything below 29 and answer the same question. What is the median?

OpenStudy (ambermarie151):

37?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

You just found the third quartile - the median of everything from the median, up.

OpenStudy (ambermarie151):

But there is no 37 so would it be 38 ?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Whats the definition of a quartile?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Personally, I disagree with anything by 37. If you have a working definition that suggests it should be something other than that, please use that definition so you get it right on your exam.
