Ribosomes are a cell structure that makes protein. Protein is needed for many cell functions such as repairing damage or directing chemical processes.

So when some antibiotics to kill bacteria by inhibiting their ribosomes, they inhibit them from doing their tasks, so the proteins are not created and the important functions of proteins are not accomplished.
