Can someone explain how to factor x^2 - 25

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Since this is \(\large{x^{2}}\) this would split into two equation of x.... \(\huge\bf{(x) (x)}\) In which multiplied it equals \(\Large{x^{2}}\) Now since we have `-25` the only way to get a negative outcome we would multiply a positive and a negative....what number multiplies itself to equal `25`?

OpenStudy (keythemusician):

5

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Correct :) So we would multiply `-5` and `5` to get `-25` so our factor is.... \(\huge\bf{(x+5)(x-5)}\)

Thank you! You were very helpful :)
