Solve and graph the absolute value inequality: |2x + 4| > 8. number line with open circles on negative 6 and 2, shading in between. number line with closed circles on negative 6 and 2, shading going in the opposite directions. number line with open circles on negative 6 and 2, shading going in the opposite directions. number line with open circles on negative 2 and 2, shading going in the opposite directions.

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Since it is in absolute you would have an outcome of a negative and a positive so we have 2 equations.... \(\huge\bf{2x+4>8}\) \(\huge\bf{2x+4>-8}\) Simplify them both.

OpenStudy (firechild17):

2x>4 2x>-12

OpenStudy (firechild17):

than divide 2 on each side

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Nice :)

OpenStudy (firechild17):

x=2 x=-6

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Correct partially the signs must stay so we have... \(\huge\bf{x>2}\) \(\huge\bf{x<-6}\)

OpenStudy (firechild17):

ok so its either A or C

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Yup :) Since x is greater than 2 the shaded region would go away to the right of 2 so it would go from 2 and on... Since x is less than -6 the shaded region would go away to the left of -6.... So with this said our answer would be what?

OpenStudy (firechild17):

C?

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Yea :)

OpenStudy (3mar):

At the top as always!

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Thank you @3mar :)

OpenStudy (firechild17):

Thanks guys umm i have 4 more that i need help with

OpenStudy (3mar):

With my pleasure!

563blackghost (563blackghost):

If you have anymore firechild then it be best to post in new thread to not crowd this one :)

OpenStudy (3mar):
