American life changed dramatically during the first part of the nineteenth century. The United States’ economy changed from a subsistence economy to a market economy. What does that mean and why did it happen? In answering this question please be sure to:

-explain the difference between a subsistence economy and a market economy.

-explain the reasons why the shift to a market economy occurred.

-in looking at the manufacturing, transportation and/or commuication instries, describe and evaluate which specific change or innovation witihin one of those industries was most important to the growth of the nation.
