How were Alfred Adler's theories different from Sigmund Freud's? Adler believed that social, not psychosexual, needs had the most significant impact on personality. Adler rejected the idea that biological needs must be met before social needs could be addressed. Adler believed that the oral stage of psychosexual development extended well into childhood. Adler disagreed with Freud that childhood experiences influence an individual's personality.
