FAN, MEDAL, TESITMONY. http://orig02.deviantart.net/394b/f/2016/287/f/8/bio_by_beariali-dal0fb5.png How would you classify this molecule? How does it differ from other molecules in its category?
It is a ribonucleotide specifically adenosine 5'-triphosphat. It is different from the other molecules in that category by its nitrogenous base (adenine). Another thing can change is the pentose component, here it is usually either ribose or deoxyribose being used (one of the key differences between DNA and RNA).
I thought so but wasn't sure. +1 to you, @Frostbite! Another thing about adenosine triphosphate is that it's also known as ATP, and provides activation energy for cellular metabolism.
@SapphireMoon Actually a good point, I was so much into the structure I totally forgot about the molecular function.
@Frostbite It was just a bit of an aside, your response is probably the one they're looking for. I can't identify molecules by structure, so just a little bit of what I do know to enhance everyone's knowledge!
