Solve the system of three linear equations

OpenStudy (gabyramirezzz):

E1: x-4y+z=5 E2:4x+2y+z=2 E3:-4x+y-3z=-8

pooja195 (pooja195):

Any ideas on where to start?

OpenStudy (gabyramirezzz):

first i did -1*E1+E2

OpenStudy (gabyramirezzz):

to eliminate z from each equation

OpenStudy (loser66):

yup, what do you get from -E1 + E2?

OpenStudy (gabyramirezzz):

wait im sorry i just figured out what i did wrong! i forgot to put a negative sign when i was plugging in all of my variables!

OpenStudy (gabyramirezzz):

im sorry thank you so much, the answers are x=1/3 y=-2/3 and z=2

OpenStudy (loser66):

ok.
