OpenStudy (bethb):

The side length of the square in the figure is 8 cm. The radius of the inscribed circle is......cm. and the radius of the circumscribed circle is......cm.

OpenStudy (karim728):

what have you tried so far?

OpenStudy (bethb):

I don't know what to try. I don't know anything about geometry.

OpenStudy (karim728):

can you see the radius now?

OpenStudy (bethb):

is it 8?

OpenStudy (karim728):

look carefully u know the difference between radius and diameter?

OpenStudy (bethb):

yes

OpenStudy (bethb):

4

OpenStudy (karim728):

there ya go

OpenStudy (bethb):

inscribed means the circle inside right

OpenStudy (karim728):

yeap

OpenStudy (karim728):

so now knowing r=4 find the circumference

OpenStudy (bethb):

the circumference is pi*r^2

OpenStudy (karim728):

use 2*pi*r

OpenStudy (bethb):

25.12

OpenStudy (karim728):

looks good

OpenStudy (bethb):

so how do I find the radius of the outer circle

OpenStudy (bethb):

its 8

OpenStudy (karim728):

do u have to find it?

OpenStudy (bethb):

yes

OpenStudy (karim728):

ok let me see how u can do this without using calculus

OpenStudy (bethb):

ok

OpenStudy (bethb):

I've got to go for now but ill be back tomorrow

OpenStudy (bethb):

thank you

OpenStudy (isaactiparo):

you divided. the length of square by 2 to get radius of inscribed circle

OpenStudy (karim728):

Now can you find the circumference of the outer circle?

OpenStudy (bethb):

thank you
