So given that BD is a perpendicular BISECTOR of AC, that means
AD = CD

So you are given
AD = 5x+8
DC = 48
and since AD= CD
5x + 8 = 48

Can you solve for x using this?

I didn't get 7. So
5x + 8 = 48
5x = 48 - 8 <-- subtracted both sides by 8
5x = 40 <-- simplified right side
x = (40/5) <-- divided both sides by 5
