OpenStudy (isabel☺):

I wanna know about mercury and water mixture. will mercury still remain as mercury if it is added with water? and what water should be used? thank you in advance! ☺

OpenStudy (isabel☺):

@FaiqRaees ☺☺☺

OpenStudy (faiqraees):

Yes mercury atoms will remain mercury atoms once added to water. However generally a homogeneous mixture will be formed of mercury and water. You can use any type of water.

OpenStudy (isabel☺):

like distilled water or even tap water?

OpenStudy (faiqraees):

Distilled would be much better since there would be no impurities in the mixture

OpenStudy (isabel☺):

Thank you very much !! ♥

OpenStudy (sapphiremoon):

@Isabel☺ (You're not planning on doing this, are you? lol)

OpenStudy (isabel☺):

I am actually haha. we need this for our thesis project ☻ @SapphireMoon why??

OpenStudy (sapphiremoon):

Don't poison yourself, mercury is an insidious neurotoxin... @Isabel☺

OpenStudy (isabel☺):

ahahaha! wait. i know mercury is hazardous when exposed to atmosphere. when Hg is added with water will it still be hazardous??

OpenStudy (isabel☺):

@FaiqRaees @SapphireMoon

OpenStudy (sapphiremoon):

idk, but they'd never let us handle mercury in the lab... I'm in high school though, so maybe it's different in college?

OpenStudy (sapphiremoon):

They won't let us handle lead, either. Heavy-metal poisons are not suitable for children. XD

OpenStudy (faiqraees):

Yes mercury will remain poisonous

OpenStudy (isabel☺):

if water and mercury is exposed in the atmosphere, we can still be poisoned ? i mean the mercury will still give off "toxic vapor" in the air?

OpenStudy (sapphiremoon):

Gosh, don't ask me, this is my first year actually being allowed to touch chemicals...

OpenStudy (isabel☺):

haha @FaiqRaees

OpenStudy (isabel☺):

@zepdrix @inkyvoyd

OpenStudy (isabel☺):

follow up question how should we separate mercury from water
