help me

OpenStudy (giitter):

OpenStudy (giitter):

@leenathan If you're not busy can yew help me??

OpenStudy (leenathan):

im in a meeting

OpenStudy (leenathan):

use pemdas

OpenStudy (giitter):

ok

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Do you know the correct order of operations?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Do you know what PEMDAS means and how to use t?

OpenStudy (giitter):

Yes P- Parenthesis E- Exponents M- Multiplication D- Division A- Addition S- Subtraction

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Yes, you got the letters correct, but the order is this: First: P - Parenthesis Second: E - Exponents Third: MD - Multiplication and Division in the order they appear from left to right Fourth AD - Addition and Subtraction in the order they appear from left to right

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

In this problem there is an exponent, since E is first, do the exponent first. The way to solve a problem like this without forgetting any operation is to write the entire problem down. Then do one step at a time in the correct order following PEMDAS and copy everything else down. Do one step per line, but copy everything else, so you don't forget part of the problem.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

\(\Large10^2 \div 25 \cdot 20 + 4 \div 2 - 14\)

OpenStudy (giitter):

Oh Ok

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

\(\Large \color{red}{10^2} \div 25 \cdot 20 + 4 \div 2 - 14 =\) \(\Large =\color{red}{100} \div 25 \cdot 20 + 4 \div 2 - 14 \) There are no parentheses or exponents now. What do you do next?

OpenStudy (giitter):

AD??

OpenStudy (giitter):

Addition and Division...................?

OpenStudy (giitter):

or Subtraction

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Where did you see AD above where I explained PEMDAS? I only see P E MD AS Where is AD?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Sorry. I did make a mistake above. The last step is AS, not AD. Let me write it again: First: P - Parenthesis Second: E - Exponents Third: MD - Multiplication and Division in the order they appear from left to right Fourth AS - Addition and Subtraction in the order they appear from left to right

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

We had no parentheses. We had an exponent and we did it. Now we have MD.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

\(\Large =\color{red}{100 \div 25 \cdot 20} + 4 \div 2 - 14\) Look above. There is a division and a multiplication. They are both part of MD, so we do them in order from left to right. What is 100/25 = ?
