1000 mL = 1 L 2800 mL = 2.8 L 3 L + 2800 mL = 3 L + 2.8 L = 5.8 L
so it's 6 liters?

If you need to take significant figures into account,, then you would have to round the answer to 6 L. Since 3 L has one significant figure and 2800 mL has 2, in an addition, the result has to have the lowest number of significant digits of all the numbers being added together.
