OpenStudy (maddieayeeee):

To make punch, Sam mixes 3 liters of lemon soda with 2,800 milliliters of orange juice. How many liters of punch does this make?

OpenStudy (jamaljunior):

I believe it's 6 liters.

OpenStudy (maddieayeeee):

Thanks

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

1000 mL = 1 L 2800 mL = 2.8 L 3 L + 2800 mL = 3 L + 2.8 L = 5.8 L

OpenStudy (maddieayeeee):

so it's 6 liters?

OpenStudy (maddieayeeee):

because of round up?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

If you need to take significant figures into account,, then you would have to round the answer to 6 L. Since 3 L has one significant figure and 2800 mL has 2, in an addition, the result has to have the lowest number of significant digits of all the numbers being added together.
