SOMEONE PLEASE HELP https://gyazo.com/21c0a5bff8866f9dfdbfdf80524bb147 https://gyazo.com/89918df3c2cf90174ebff24235c48539 (the x axis is: Distance (miles)

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

I guess you are trying to find the slope. So pick two points from the graph then use the formula to find the slope. \[\text{Slope} = \frac{y_2 - y_1}{x_2 - x_1} \] That is also represented (in simplified form) as \[\text{Slope}=\frac{\Delta y}{\Delta x}\]

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Slope represents the rate of something being done. Basically in this case it would be how much fare is covered per mile.

OpenStudy (jamaljunior):

what is the triangle for/

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

You just need to replace the "how much fare" with the slope.

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

What do you mean the triangle? Like the rise/run representation?

OpenStudy (jamaljunior):

Δ in the slope formula thing

OpenStudy (jamaljunior):

how do i put the points (3, 2) in the formula?

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

That's a Greek symbol that means "Delta". "Delta" just translates, in math, to "change". (Change in \(y\))/(Change in \(x\))

OpenStudy (jamaljunior):

3 ------- 2 Slope:

OpenStudy (jamaljunior):

like that?

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

I don't think that is the slope. Did you pick two points?

OpenStudy (jamaljunior):

the points are 3, 2

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

The points need to be on the line. And by the two points I mean you need to have two coordinates, like (x,y) and (a,b) for example.

OpenStudy (jamaljunior):

8, 2/

OpenStudy (jamaljunior):

those are on the line, yes?

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Do you mean (8,2)? Well check if the line crosses through that point. If not, then it's not on the line.

OpenStudy (jamaljunior):

yes

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Please check more carefully. (8,2) is not on the line.

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

I will give you one point, the y-intercept which is (0,3). Find another one.

OpenStudy (jamaljunior):

wait is 2,8 on the line?

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Yes

OpenStudy (jamaljunior):

oh thats what i meant sorru

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Now use the formula to find the slope. We can designate |dw:1477013212877:dw|
