Interesting word problem for business minds :-)

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

a total of $15,000 was invested in accounts earning 6% annual simple interest and in bonds earning 10% annual simple interest. if twice as much of the $15,000 had been invested in bonds, the earnings would have been $160 higher. how much was invested in bonds?

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

x in accounts and y in bonds\[\large x+y = 15000\]z is the earnings from that\[\large 0.06x+0.1y = z\] \[\large 0.06(15000-2y)+ 0.1(2y)=z+160\]

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

\[\large 0.06(15000-y)+0.1y = z\] \[\large 0.06(15000-2y)+ 0.1(2y)=0.06(15000-y)+0.1y +160\]
