OpenStudy (jakob):

Find the value of y when x equals 10. 5x-y=54

OpenStudy (jakob):

TG yeah

OpenStudy (torvela):

ok first start by replacing x for 10 to get: 50-y=54

OpenStudy (tgstudios):

well, 5 times 10 is 50

OpenStudy (jakob):

Torvela I have had TG help me with alot of question and he is helping

OpenStudy (jakob):

54-50=4

OpenStudy (tgstudios):

50 - what will equal 54

OpenStudy (tgstudios):

if you subtract a negative, take away the negative sign and make the minus a plus

OpenStudy (jakob):

Iḿ lost now

OpenStudy (jakob):

104?

OpenStudy (tgstudios):

for example: 20 - -25 is the same as 20 + 25

OpenStudy (torvela):

Well, jakob if you were to simply do 50-54 you would have gotten the answer. But, i think you just got mixed up and switched them on accident

OpenStudy (jakob):

So 4? like I said

OpenStudy (tgstudios):

almost, y = -4

OpenStudy (torvela):

Remember that if you subtract something from a number such as 0-1 you are going to get a negative
