Approximately half way through Act One of The Crucible, John Proctor and Abigail Williams find themselves alone with the ailing Betty Parris. Imagine that you are directing this portion of the play (until Reverend Parris enters again). Describe the how the actors should look and behave as their characters. Describe the costumes, sets, lights, and movement in the scene. Describe the music (sound that will be used to enhance the mood). Describe why this scene is so important to the plot. Describe what this scene indicates about the theme of the play. Describe the way the dialogue should be spoken for the maximum effect.
