Will get medal if I get the correct answer
We write out two equations. We now that the dimes plus the quarters equal in total 50 coins. \(\huge\bf{x+y=50}\)
@Jakob
I am here
We know that 10 cents and 25 cents with each their own amount will equal $10.25. \(\huge\bf{.10x + .25y = $10.25}\)
We need to find how many dimes so we would simplify the first equation into an equation of quarters which will be y. So we subtract x from both sides to get... \(\huge\bf{y=50-x}\)
We then plug this into your second equation... \(\huge\bf{.10x+.25(50-x)=10.25}\) Simplify to find x.
.35*50x=10.25 right?
Not quite. \(\huge\bf{.10x + (-0.25x) + 12.5=10.25}\) Add like terms... \(\huge\bf{-0.15x+12.5=10.25}\)
WTF how....... I am so confused,......... I am sorry
We distribute `.25` into the paranthesis... So we multiply `.25 by 50` and we multiply `.25 by -x`. \(\huge\bf{.25(50-x) \rightarrow -0.15x + 12.5}\)
Alright *sighs
^.^ Distribution means basically mutilplying every number by the number on the outside... \(\huge\bf{.25(50-x)}\) \(\huge\bf{.25 \times 50) = 12.5}\) \(\huge\bf{.25 \times -x = -0.25x}\) \(\huge\bf{.10x+(-0.25x)+12.5=10.25}\) We then add like terms... \(\huge\bf{.10x + (-0.25x) = -0.15x}\) \(\huge\bf\color{purple}{-0.15x+12.5}\)
so is that my answer
So we now have.. \(\huge\bf\color{purple}{-0.15x+12.5=10.25}\) Now we need to get `-0.15x` to itself so we subtract 12.5 from each side... \(\huge\bf{-0.15x = 10.25-12.5}\) \(\huge\bf{-0.15x=-2.25}\) Now we divide... \(\huge\bf{\frac{-0.15x}{-0.15}=\frac{-2.25}{-0.15}}\) What does that equal?
Hold on
15
Correct :) So she has `15 dimes`.
thx help me some more if i havent tortoured you enough
I would love to help you more but I have to take my leave ;) Good luck with your work though.
Maybe @3mar or @Will.H can, those two are extraordinary helpers.
thank you can you medal me plz
Sorry, I was not here, @563blackghost ! @Jakob If you need help, I will help you as much as I know and as I can.
