OpenStudy (oliviadaae):

What are some examples of women's efforts and sacrifices during World War 1?

OpenStudy (osprey):

Violette Szabo GC, Odette Hallowes GC, and Princes Noor Al Khan GC all special operations executive agents who worked as couriers and messagers in occupied Germany. Hallowes was the only one to return to UK alive, although traumatised. The GC is the UK's highest award to a CIVILIAN for outstanding bravery in the face of the enemy. It's the civ equivalent of the VICTORIA CROSS which is the armed forces people can get. I have to say that I find it difficult to write this, trying not to imagine what those ladies went through. I've seen some diluted "SAS training" tv shows, and they went through that AND MORE. In the US, it's the Navy SEALS, I believe. I salute them

OpenStudy (osprey):

I've just re read the question. I've posted about WW2, and it says WW1. I'll leave the post up there, and I'll add the name FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE among other nurses who worked heroically and healingly throughout that period. I don't have the same details as for ww2 though. apologies for my confusion http://perendis.webs.com

OpenStudy (jake4272):

women in ww1 when the men went to fight in the war the women took up the factoty jobs making the weapons and bombs used back then they also came to be nurses who would treat the wounded as well

OpenStudy (osprey):

and by "allowing" women to work it continued EMANCIPATION, and good old universal suffrage "VOTES FOR WOMEN" becoming the clarion call.
