When you want to subtract 2 numbers in scientific notation, make sure they both have same exponent first. Then subtract . Finally convert answer to standard scientific notation by changing exponent. ----> 1.1 *10^8 = 11*10^7 Subtract ---> 11 - 5.8 = 5.2 Answer = 5.2 * 10^7
