OpenStudy (sstradic):

how does a cresent moon appear?

OpenStudy (mhchen):

Any ideas?

OpenStudy (kittiwitti1):

This is math? The amount of moon surface you can see depends on its stage in orbit around the earth; the angle at which it receives the sun's light causes its visible area to change shape.

OpenStudy (kittiwitti1):

The crescent moon appears when there is an increasingly growing smaller angle at which the moon is receiving the sunlight.

OpenStudy (sstradic):

so less than half would be visible .... right?
