To find the domain - set the denominator equal to zero, solve for x - those x values are *not* in the domain. The domain will be all real numbers, except those values of x. To find vertical asymptotes - see the above values of x. But also go back and factor the original function completely - if any factors cancel off, that gives a hole, *not* a vertical asymptote. Horizontal asymptotes - look at the highest powers of x in the numerator and denominator. If the denominator has the highest power, the asymptote is y = 0. If the powers are equal - divide their coefficients. If the numerator has the highest power, there is no horiz asymptote.
