I need some help with the following questions: 1. _______ is a molecule that stores and provides energy for all of life's processes. A. ATP B. Glucose C. Fructose 2. ATP (adenosine triphosphate) is made up of a base, a sugar and 3 phosphates. In order for energy to be released from ATP, a phosphate has to be broken off. This results in ATP becoming __________(a base, a sugar adn 2 phosphates) A. ABP B. AMP C. ADP D. APP 3. Active transport is the process of getting molecules across the cell membrane. It required energy. We use ________ as this energy to complete the process of active transport. A. ADP B. ATP ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is very confusing to me. I get very confused with the whole concept of ATP in general. Can someone please help me?
This should help
1) I would say A, because not all energy comes from molecules of saccharides such as glucose and fructose - some can come from lipids, but in the end this all gets converted into ATP. 2) Hint: Tri - 3 (Phosphates) Di - 2 (Phosphates) Mono - 1 (Phosphate) If 3 phosphates is in Adenosine Triphosphate, then two phosphates would be Adenosine __phosphate 3) ATP is converted into ADP. More energy is released from the 3rd phosphate breaking off, rather than the second phosphate breaking off. Therefore, it makes more sense for ATP to be used in active transport as it is more efficient to do so rather than use ADP, which will not release as much energy for active transport. These are the answers, I'll write up a brief explanation of ATP in just a moment :>
