zarkam21 (zarkam21):

How to know if this graph is a function

zarkam21 (zarkam21):

OpenStudy (phi):

use the "vertical line test" if a straight up/down line only crosses the curve once, then you have a function (example of *not* a function : graph of a circle)

zarkam21 (zarkam21):

So true?

zarkam21 (zarkam21):

@misty1212 could you confirm darling xx

zarkam21 (zarkam21):

@mathmate

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Please follow the instruction given to you by @phi and make a decision. I will be glad to confirm answers if they are accompanied by an explanation or justification to show that appropriate work was done.

zarkam21 (zarkam21):

I did do the work here on my scrap paper that is why I said true because according to what I drew up, I see that there is one point for each

psirockin2 (psirockin2):

I'm pretty sure it passes the vertical line test. If there were multiple points on the same vertical line, then we'd have a problem

zarkam21 (zarkam21):

So true right, that's what I was saying the whole time

OpenStudy (mathmate):

@zarkam21 `I see that there is one point for each ` is what I wanted to hear. Yes, the graph represents a function. Well done!
