Louann and Carla received equal scores on a test made up of multiple choice questions and an essay. Louann got 14 multiple choice questions correct and received 24 points for her essay. Carla got 16 multiple choice questions correct and received 14 points for her essay.

How many points was each multiple choice question worth?

Well we have a multiple choice "# of questions and we have each questions score...lets call that 'x'

And we have an essay...of which there is only 1...and those are given scores as well...but they are known.

So we can set up 2 equations here for the scores and, since they received equal scores, set them equal to each other

\[\large 14x + 24 = 16x + 14\]

And solve for 'x'
