OpenStudy (sbentleyaz):

If 600 cm2 of material is available to make a box with a square base and a closed top, find the maximum volume of the box in cubic centimeters. Answer to the nearest cubic centimeter without commas. For example, if the answer is 2,000 write 2000

OpenStudy (phi):

is this a calculus problem ?

OpenStudy (sbentleyaz):

yes

OpenStudy (sbentleyaz):

it was in my calculus homework but i dont know how you figure it out

OpenStudy (phi):

the answer will be a cube (so we can use that as a check) but, doing the problem from the beginning, they say the base is square call the length and width both x and call the height y we first need a formula for the surface area of a box with dimensions x,x,y can you figure that out ?

OpenStudy (sbentleyaz):

would 1000 be the answer?

OpenStudy (phi):

I haven't done the problem. do you know how to find the surface area of an enclosed box ?
