What is the distance from (-2,4) to (0,-6) Round your answer to the nearest hundredth. The answer choices are 9.23, 10.20, 10.98, 11.34 but I get the answer 5.65
what am i doing wrong?
it looks like you "flipped" the x and y for example, (-2,4) means the x is -2 and they is 4 that point would be two left of the y-axis, and 4 steps up
plus, you really should practice using the distance formula it's hard to pass a test if you let a computer do the work (and you don't have a computer) so practice now. It won't hurt, and it's fun to figure things out.
how is that?
that looks closer, but the top point you plotted looks like (-3,4) and the problem wants (-2,4)
so the triangle has width 2 (not 3) and height 10 using pythagoras, the distance (the hypotenuse) is \[ \sqrt{2\cdot 2 + 10\cdot 10}\]
you should use a calculator, or type into google sqrt(104)=
Oh i see where i messed up
Ao the answer is 10.20
