How do I know which form of effect and affect to use?

If one thing will do something to another it will affect it, but afterwards we will look at the effect it caused. Affect is for when something WILL in the future impact something, and effect is for AFTER something has happened and you look at the effects of the incident.

You can also say "the effects of that will be good" because you are talking about what will happen later after something happens.
