post the problem, please
OpenStudy (esa_pau):
use the factor theorem to determine which of the following is NOT one of the factors of 4x^4-21x^3-22x^2+117x+90
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
what choices are you given?
OpenStudy (esa_pau):
a. x-3
b. x-5
c. x-2
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
what you do is set each factor equal to zero and solve for x
eg: x-3 = 0 ----> x = 3
then plug x = 3 into `4x^4-21x^3-22x^2+117x+90`. What result do you get when you plug in x = 3?

OpenStudy (esa_pau):
i get 0
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
me too
since the result is 0, this means that x-3 is a factor so we can rule out this answer choice
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
x-5 = 0
x-5+5 = 0+5 ... add 5 to both sides
x = 5
plug x = 5 into `4x^4-21x^3-22x^2+117x+90` and what do you get?
OpenStudy (esa_pau):
i got zero for five also
OpenStudy (esa_pau):
so the answer is C because i got 132 for x-2

yep x-2 is NOT a factor
