it's some sort of "double helix", so I believe. A helix is how you'd wind a wire coil round something, or it's also maybe the correct name for a "spiral" staircase. Spirals are two dimensions, helices are three. The diameter of the helix is constant - sort of a cylinder. The molecules are connected together to form the helix, and therein lies the various coding patterns for genetic information.
