OpenStudy (something):

Sports records are often expressed in terms of time. For instance, a player may have the most homeruns in one game, in one season, or over a career. Do a bit of research on the Internet and find a sports record that is held for two different periods of time (like the most homeruns for one game and the most homeruns for one season). Graph these two records with two lines on two different coordinate planes. In a written response, explain your thoughts on what these two linear functions are saying about the two sports records. Include in your analysis the following items:

OpenStudy (something):

here's outline of what it should say: A comparison between the slopes of the two functions and the significance. The algebraic equation for each of the two linear functions. An explanation of how to graph both on the same coordinate plane and what would be the point of doing so. An analysis of what it would take for another athlete to break the record, perhaps involving rate of change and/or inequalities. An explanation of why the record for the shorter time period will always have the function with the steepest slope.

OpenStudy (issimplcalcus):

Step one: Google two sports records vs time Step two: Write about how people are getting better at sports over time.

OpenStudy (issimplcalcus):

When you look up sports records over time you'll see that records are increasingly getting better, because for something to become a record you have to beat the previous one.

OpenStudy (something):

ahh ok that helps, but where do I find that information and how would I graph it?

OpenStudy (triciaal):

you understand what a linear function is right?

OpenStudy (something):

yeah

OpenStudy (something):

this is algebra 2 btw

OpenStudy (something):

ok so for 200m dash I have one value for 19.30 minutes and one for 19.32 minutes, do I need to find more information for another line or do I use this for the two different lines
