OpenStudy (sugarmochi):

Can someone please help me with this?? Sketch the set of three parabolas on the same number plane (in different colours) y=x^2-2x-8 y=2x^2-4-16 y=8+2x-x^2

OpenStudy (n00bstyle):

in maths, you have certain numbers that really helps you see out seeing what a formula does: 0 -1 1 infinity -infinity Just fill them in, and you will see really quick what a formula means or does

OpenStudy (sshayer):

\[y=x^2-2x-8=(x^2-2x+1-1)-8=(x-1)^2-9\] (x-1)^2=y+9 it is an upward parabola vertex is (1,-9)

OpenStudy (sshayer):

similarly for others complete the square and find vertex.

Directrix (directrix):

@SugarMochi If you are allowed to use graphing programs, go to desmos.com . Enter the three equations. The program will draw the three parabolas. On the second equation you entered, I think an "x" is missing. >>>y=2x^2-4-16
