OpenStudy (madeleine2):

An aspiring engineer wants to build a timer by taking a glass cylinder, filling it with water, suspending it in the air, and cutting a small hole in the bottom. He notes that at 1 p.m., the cylinder is 80% full, and at 2 p.m., it is 65% full. Draw a graph expressing this and interpret the meaning of the y-intercept.

OpenStudy (3mar):

Is the glass cylinder opened at the top end to the atmosphere, or what?

OpenStudy (danjs):

I guess you can assume the exit flow rate is constant, so the graph of the Water remaining % versus Time will have a constant rate of change, a line.

OpenStudy (danjs):

OpenStudy (danjs):

The y-intercept will be where the thing is 100% full
