OpenStudy (jazzminejones):

Identify the type of change involved in the scenarios that are described and why they are that type of change. A) Yeast consuming the sugar in the rising of bread. b) water boiling

OpenStudy (brittanyrolfe):

So there are mainly two types of changes that matter can undergo. These changes include physical changes and chemical changes. A physical change can be something like ripping a piece of paper or, in this case, boiling water. This is because you are not changing the structure of water, just rearranging the order of the molecules. As for a chemical change, you can see this when you place a piece of paper in a flame and it turns to ash. Chemical changes can also be expressed as chemical equations as well. As for yeast and sugar, this could be considered a chemical change because the molecules that make up yeast are binding to the sugar crystals. This is a chemical reaction and can be expressed in the form of an equation.
