@zepdrix

OpenStudy (pflori1234_pop):

Please help someone

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Write the equation of the parabola with vertex (1,-5) and focus (1,-8) in both vertex and standard forms.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

So umm

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Sec I forgot the fun shortcuts for this type of problem XD Lemme work through it real quick. I'm sure it will come back to me.

OpenStudy (pflori1234_pop):

ok thank you so much!

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Ok ok ok ok I think I got it >.<

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Boy this is going to be hard to explain... mmmmmm

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Notice that our vertex and focus have the same x-coordinate. \(\large\rm (\color{orangered}{1},-5)\qquad\qquad (\color{orangered}{1},-8)\) The two locations are stacked, one above the other. This is telling us that our parabola will open in the y-direction.|dw:1478750842061:dw|that's because our parabola will always open around the focus point. Think of it like a magnet maybe.
