but dont you have to like 30 over 40 and 12 over 20 multiply them across or something

my idea is to assume that they are similiar, then I can figure out the proportionality by taking ratio of the corresponding sides, then apply it to the other pair of corresponding sides and see if they match, if they dont that contradiction happen and we dont have similiar figure

put it to math would be calculate 30/40 which is 3/4, apply it to the other pair of sides, so 20*3/4 is 15, but we have a side of 12, therefore this proportionality doesnt hold and we conclude that the two figures are not similiar
