Question is in the screenshot

OpenStudy (luckylu):

Wouldn't you just take out the 1/2?

OpenStudy (luckylu):

so it becomes 3 cups equaling to 1 dozen...

OpenStudy (madisongoode):

It doesn't work that way @LuckyLu

OpenStudy (luckylu):

oh fr? my bad

OpenStudy (alayrhi):

xD

OpenStudy (alayrhi):

@jabez177

OpenStudy (madisongoode):

So, for this, I'm pretty sure we have to divide the fractions. Can you do that @alayrhi ?

OpenStudy (madisongoode):

It's 2 1/3 If we divide, it'll be 2 1/3 Do you want me to explain?

OpenStudy (alayrhi):

Yeah ^_^

OpenStudy (madisongoode):

Okay, so... This is a division problem, so we need to flip the fraction The first fraction needs to be converted to improper form. Plug in the values of the first fraction: 3 × 2 + 1 = 7 Re-writing the first fraction, we get 7/2. The second fraction needs to be converted to imporper form. Plug in the values of the second fraction: 1 × 2 + 1 = 3 Re-writing the first fraction, we get 3/2.

OpenStudy (madisongoode):

When we divide fractions, we have to switch the numerator and denominator of the second fraction: 3/2 goes to 2/3

OpenStudy (madisongoode):

Multiply the numerators together, and multiply the denominators together: 7/2 times 2/3 = 14/6

OpenStudy (madisongoode):

The fraction 14/6 is not in lowest terms, so we need to reduce it So, we need to find the largest factor of both numbers 14 and 6

OpenStudy (madisongoode):

2 is the largest factor of both 14 and 6, so we need to divide both the numerator and denominator by 2. Numerator: 14 ÷ 2 = 7 Denominator: 6 ÷ 2 = 3 So, it would look like this now 7/3

OpenStudy (madisongoode):

7/3 is improper because the numerator is greater than or equal to the denominator. We need to turn it into a mixed number. So, we just divide. And then we get 2 1/3
