OpenStudy (studyhoney):

Triangle ABC is similar to triangle DEF. Which statement is true about the two triangles? Angles A and C are congruent. Angles A and D are congruent. Angles B and E are proportional. Angles C and D are proportional. can someone explain the difference between congruent and proportional bc they confuse me

OpenStudy (steve816):

If 2 triangles are similar, the angles will be congruent! So the last two answers can be scratched off.

OpenStudy (steve816):

The first choice is incorrect because those are talking about the angles in 1 triangle. So it must be the second one!

OpenStudy (studyhoney):

i think I understand :)

OpenStudy (steve816):

Great! @studrinc

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

If two polygons are similar, then every angle of one polygon is congruent to the corresponding angle of the the other polygon, and the lengths of every pair of corresponding sides is in the same ratio.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

The statements of choices C and D have no meaning. There is no such thing as proportional angles. Angles are either congruent or not congruent. What can be proportional is the lengths of segments.

OpenStudy (studyhoney):

thank you!

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

You're welcome.
