Need some help with optimization:

OpenStudy (legomyego180):

Well, im supposed to be using lagrange theorum here I think, but its a set, which ive never dealt with so idk if its any different. I think I may have to parameterize.

OpenStudy (legomyego180):

@triciaal

OpenStudy (fixxer):

max: y=-1 x=0 f(x,y)=1 min: x=0 y=1 f(x,y)=-1

OpenStudy (reemii):

If you solve \(\nabla f(x,y) = \vec 0\), what are the solutions ?

OpenStudy (fixxer):

And yeah lagrange is the right assumption, set gradient of f(x,y)=lambda*gradient of g(x,y) and solve

OpenStudy (legomyego180):

working on it

OpenStudy (legomyego180):

Do I have to use product rule in this gradient?

OpenStudy (fixxer):

You have to make a vector [fx,fy] partial derrivatives with respect to x and y
