OpenStudy (vkhmn):

The genes for hemophilia are located on the X chromosome. It is a recessive disorder. List the possible genotypes and phenotypes of the children from a man normal for blood clotting and a woman who is a carrier. (HINT: You have to keep track of what sex the children are!)

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

It looks like H represents normal blood clotting and h represents hemophilia, since this is a recessive x-linked disorder. So based from this, the genotype of a normal man would be \(X^HY\) If the woman is a carrier, that means one of her X alleles will code for h. So the genotype of a normal woman who carrier hemophilia would be \(X^HX^h\)

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

Does that make sense so far? A man also has XY because that is the genotype of a man, and a woman has a genotype of XX because that is the genotype of a woman.

OpenStudy (vkhmn):

Let me write that down in my Punnett square and I will let you know in a second... whether it works or not, thank you so much for all of your help!
