Please help :-) Which of the following coordinates for P will make line MN perpendicular to line OP in the diagram below?
can you please post the answers?
a. (-2,5) b. (-3,6) c. (3,2) d. (3,5)
perpendicular lines bisect at 90 degrees of each other...|dw:1479242489018:dw|
line OP needs to a slope that is the opposite reciprocal of slope line MN by definition
you can calculate the slope of line mn by solving for m ... m = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1) if m= (-2, -5) and n= (4,7)
ok
2,2
m=slope not point m ^ just to clarify. once you solve for the slope of line mn than you find the opposite reciprocal of the slope and find the point that satisfies the question... if the slope is 2 what is the opposite reciprocal?
ok
After you find the reciprocal of the slope... you just found the slope of line OP.. Now you are going to use point slope form to find the equation of line OP which is: y-y1=m(x-x1) m=slope of line op x1= -3 y1= 5 after you get your equation... you are going to look at the set of values and determine which one is on the line
